Work moving from drawing to shelf: a drawing on a screen, a saw cutting, paint going on, a lit shelf.

Stillroom.Creative agency

Most of what a brand sells is made in stages by companies that never meet. That is where the idea thins out. Here the people who sketched it are still on the job the day it launches.

Bring the thing you are making and go through the door that builds it.

One object, from a pencil line.

A sketch commits to nothing. Somewhere after it, your idea either becomes something that can be made, or it stays an idea.

01

The sketch

Someone draws it by hand, badly, until the shape is right. No measurements yet, no tolerances, nothing that has to be true. Every object on a shelf somewhere started as a page like this one, and most of them never get any further than it.

> STEP 0101/11
> NEXT: STEP 02 · THE VISUAL ↓

02

The visual

Before anything exists, you need to see what it could be. This is the picture that gets shown in a meeting, argued over, and either killed or turned into a job. It is the cheapest point at which to change your mind.

> STEP 0202/11
> NEXT: STEP 03 · THE DRAWING ↓

03

The drawing

Then it has to survive being measured. Wall thickness, draft, how the parts meet, what the mould can actually release. This is where a nice idea either becomes something that can be made, or quietly stops being one.

> STEP 0303/11
> NEXT: STEP 04 · THE MODEL ↓

04

The model

The shape gets rebuilt digitally, where it can still be argued with. Move a line here and the whole silhouette changes. Better to find that now than on a bench, with the metal already cut.

> STEP 0404/11
> NEXT: STEP 05 · THE PARTS ↓

05

The parts

Every component pulled apart and counted. A flacon that reads as one object is a dozen separate things that have to be made, finished and fitted, each with its own lead time and its own way of going wrong.

> STEP 0505/11
> NEXT: STEP 06 · THE FORM ↓

06

The form

The shape worked by hand, at the size it will actually be. A screen flatters everything. Holding it is the first honest test of whether the proportions are right, and it is usually the point where something changes.

> STEP 0606/11
> NEXT: STEP 07 · THE PRINT ↓

07

The print

A version you can pick up, straight off the printer. Not the final material, not the final finish, but the right size and the right shape in your hand, days rather than weeks after the drawing was signed off.

> STEP 0707/11
> NEXT: STEP 08 · THE GLASS ↓

08

The glass

Hot glass at the furnace, taking the shape. This is the step that cannot be simulated. The material decides what it will and will not do, and the drawing has to have left room for that.

> STEP 0808/11
> NEXT: STEP 09 · THE CAGE ↓

09

The cage

Metalwork set into its tooling. The cage has to hold the glass, fit the cap, and survive being handled in a shop. Three requirements that pull in different directions, resolved in one part.

> STEP 0909/11
> NEXT: STEP 10 · THE OBJECT ↓

10

The object

Finished, and standing on its own. Everything before this was a version of it. This is the object a customer picks up, and the only one that was ever the point.

> STEP 1010/11
> NEXT: STEP 11 · THE BENCH ↓

11

The bench

The last of it is done at a bench, by hand, with tools that have not changed much. Setting, seating, checking under a loupe. No process replaces this part, which is why it is the part that takes the longest.

How it goes

tension

You have a thing to launch and six suppliers to brief. The set people have not spoken to the stand people. Nobody owns the whole of it.

obstacle

Every time the job changes hands between companies, the intention gets a little flatter, and nobody in the chain can be blamed for it.

risk

What goes missing is the part you cared about. The launch still happens. It just looks like everybody else's.

turn

Bring the whole job here. One team carries your idea through every room it needs.

proof

The Concept Visualiser and Name Bench on this site are free: try the thinking before you commit.

limits

Every job is priced on its own, and you see what it will look like before anything is made.

future

The finished thing still looks like the idea you started with.

What Stillroom Creative makes

Your launch, in the order it happens.

Stillroom Creative is a creative and marketing agency with its own production floor. It takes on strategy, branding, prototypes, props, film, stands and events.

01

Think

Who your customer is, and how your brand should look and sound.

02

Make

The things you hold: prototypes, packaging, props and sets.

03

Sell

Film, print, web and e-commerce, social, shops, stands and events.

  • You never brief the same idea twice.
  • Nobody asks you to pass messages between the set builder and the printer.
  • Nothing is shown to you that cannot be made.

The rooms

Nineteen rooms. Use one, or bring the whole job.

Every room works toward the moment a stranger stops to look at yours.

Asked

What does Stillroom Creative do for a brand

Stillroom Creative's rooms cover strategy and identity, prototypes, packaging, props, sets, animatronics, themed spaces, factory and fit-out builds and production runs, then film, print, social, websites and e-commerce, displays, shop fits, exhibition stands, activations and events.

Can I hire just one room, or bring a finished design

Yes to both. A room takes work on its own, however small, for you or for the agency running your project. A finished drawing can go straight to the floor, and if the brief grows, the other rooms pick it up.

Is Stillroom Creative a marketing agency or a production company

Stillroom Creative is a marketing agency with its own production floor, so it runs the strategy, branding and campaigns and makes the physical work as well.

Does one company doing design and build make a project more expensive

You pay one company for the design and the build, and nobody charges you to interpret another firm's drawing.

Can Stillroom Creative take my product into production

Yes. Projectroom runs the production of your product, checks every unit against the approved sample, and one person answers for all of it.

Who do I talk to first if I am not sure what I actually need

Describe what you are making and when it needs to exist, and the right room gets named for you.
