How does the model visualiser work?

You tell Hal, our design assistant, what you want made. A priced brief fills in on the left as you answer, and the centre draws an approximate scale drawing of your model beside a 1.80 m person. You can change your answers and see the budget move as you go. No 3D model is made on this page.

Is the budget on the model page a quote?

No. It is an indicative band, shown excluding VAT, so you can judge whether the project is in the right place before you commit anything. Final cost depends on size, finish, quantity, delivery and installation. The studio checks the figure and confirms it within two days.

What if the budget is higher than I planned for model?

Type in the budget you have. The tool proposes the smallest changes to scope that bring the project to it, and applies them to what you see on screen. You get a lower specification for your money, not the same thing for less.

I already have a quote from someone else. Can you compare?

Yes. We do not match prices, but we will go through a written quote line by line against our scope so you can see what each includes. If you need to pay less, we offer a version at your figure with a clearly stated scope.

What happens after I finish with Hal?

You can save the project to an account, book a call, forward it to a colleague or download the pack. If you go ahead, drawings come first and you approve them in writing before anything is made.

Can you make a 3D model from a photo or a description?

Yes. Describe it to Hal and the page gives you an approximate scale drawing and a priced brief. For a real job the studio builds the 3D model and drawings in the drawing office, and you approve the drawings before anything is made.

Can you 3D scan an object?

Yes. We scan existing objects, build the model from the scan and use it for copies, repairs, redesign or scale models.

What is the difference between a scale model and a prototype?

A scale model shows how something looks at a reduced or enlarged size. A prototype is a working or near-working version used to test how it behaves and fits, before a production run.

Do you make architectural and presentation models?

Yes. Scale and presentation models for buildings, spaces and products are made to the detail and finish the audience needs.

How do I get a 3D printing price?

Tell Hal what the object is, its size and how many you need. The budget fills in from your answers as an indicative band you can adjust before talking to us.

Can you help once the prototype is approved?

Yes. We prepare pre-production samples and carry the approved model forward into the production run, so the prototype leads somewhere.

What kinds of model can you make?

Scale and presentation models, working prototypes, pre-production samples, 3D scans, 3D printed parts, and CAD on its own. They are used to present a plan, test a design, sell an idea, or put a permanent display in a lobby or a showroom.

What are models made from, and how detailed can they be?

Detail runs from simple shapes through clear detail to fine detail with interiors, and on to models that are lit and working. Finishes run from plain white to painted and realistic, with clear or glass parts and mixed materials where the model needs them. Hal asks what the model is for and whether people will pick it up, because that decides how robust it has to be.

How does a model job run from brief to delivery?

You describe the model to Hal and a priced brief builds beside it. In the drawing office the 3D model and the drawings are prepared, and you approve the drawings in writing. The model is then made at the factory, finished, packed in the case or crate it needs and shipped or installed.

How big can a model be, and how many can you make?

From palm sized to larger than a table, and from one to six or more. Tell Hal the size you have in mind and how many you need, and the brief shows how quantity changes the price of each.

Does the model come with a case?

It can. Choose no case, a transit crate for travel, a display case, or both. A model that has to travel is built and packed differently from one that stays on a table.

How long does a model take to make?

Weeks for a small model or a printed part, and longer for a large presentation model with fine detail, lighting or moving parts. The drawings you approve set the pace. Tell Hal the date and we say plainly whether it is realistic.

What should I send to start a 3D print or a scan job?

CAD files are the quickest start, and drawings or photographs work too. With none of those, describe the object to Hal and the studio builds the model from your description.

Can I have a model before paying for tooling?

Yes, that is a common reason to come to Model Room. A prototype or pre-production sample is in your hand before the cost of production tooling is spent, so you can test the fit and the feel and change what needs changing.

What do I get at the end?

A priced brief and scale drawing to start, drawings you approve in writing, the finished model with its case if you asked for one, delivered or installed where it is going.
